Discover fashion design

Covid-19 changed the way colleges operated and Mallow College of Design and Tailoring was no different.

Like all educational activities, Covid-19 required the college to run courses online during the past year. This required students and teachers to become proficient in the use of Zoom, Vimeo, etc and this worked very well with very positive feedback from students.

As part of the learning process, students had access to videos that were uploaded after each class and this enabled them to pick up on any items that they needed to get clarified.

Courses covered dressmaking, pattern drafting and fashion design.

While online activity worked well, the face-to-face in the classroom setting offers many advantages for students - from getting individual tuition from teachers to communication and learnings from other students.

This helps to achieve better outcomes rather than working in isolation and not being able to monitor progress and develop ideas as you would in a classroom setting. The college plan to run courses back in the classroom this year while taking all precautions in relation to social distancing, mask wearing, ventilation, hand hygiene and the other regulations that must be observed. In addition, free online videos will also be available to all students on the various topics covered. As numbers are limited due to Covid-19, class sizes are small and this benefits students. Students have the choice to cover the course they choose at their own pace as the courses consist of different modules. All courses on successful completion lead to a qualification from the college in the area chosen. Courses are part-time and the college year consists of three ten-week terms commencing in September and finishing at the end of May. Some students that may have chosen dressmaking discover new skills and talents and continue and complete the Fashion Design qualification. Students that have successfully completed the course are working in many different areas of the industry. See mallowfashioncollege.com for more.
