Staff and pupils at North Presentation Primary School will walk 3,108 miles in one month to raise funds for a well-deserved school tour.

Children going the extra smile

A Cork city school is getting ready to walk from Cork to New York this month to raise money for its first school tour in almost three years.

The staff and pupils of North Presentation Primary School on Cathedral Walk have taken on the mission of walking the 3,108 miles between Cork and New York in just one month.

This Miles For Smiles sponsored walk will be the school’s first major fundraiser since the pandemic, with all funds raised going towards a school tour for every pupil in the school. This will be the school’s first school tour since 2019.

Each class has been given a target of miles to cover and their combined efforts will see them virtually cross the Atlantic Ocean.

To help raise funds, each child will be given a sponsorship card. A special GoFundMe page has also been set up for the general public and relatives abroad who may like to donate. All donations are greatly appreciated and can be made by visiting gofundme.com and searching ‘Cork To New York Miles For Smiles’. North Presentation Primary School is a DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) school community with pupils from more than 40 ethnicities.

The majority of the school’s children live in Blackpool and the Shandon area, with some children living in the city centre too. To follow the ‘Miles For Smiles’ progress, regular updates will be posted on the fundraiser’s Twitter feed @NorthPresPrim and the North Presentation Primary School Facebook page.
