Hear the call of the city start-up stall

Cork’s English Market is offering a tasty opportunity for budding food entrepreneurs to come and trade within its iconic walls.

The opportunity is available to innovative food producers and local start-ups whose offering will complement the existing products available in the market.

The successful applicant will not only gain invaluable experience of trading in the English Market but will also avail of its fully fitted out start-up stall unit, avoiding some expensive capital investment.

By trading in the market, food producers will be able to trial products, assess demand and receive valuable feedback from customers, all while making valuable connections and learning from other traders, producers and suppliers in the market.

The English Market is inviting applicants from start-ups that have been in operation for less than five years and who can commit to being present at their stall while demonstrating a passion for their products and engaging directly with their customers.

Those who can demonstrate a commitment to sustainable food practices, from low food miles to compostable packaging will be in strong contention. Joint applications are welcome, as are seasonal and one-off ventures.

All cooking and 90% of processing and production must be carried out off-site and the start-up stall is not kitted out for hot food vendors, cafes or delis.

Although the English Market takes great pride in its traditional offering, it’s also home to contemporary and unique food offerings which can be built on by the new start-up stall.

By introducing a new generation of food business, successful start-ups will be ideally placed if a stall becomes available in the market on a permanent basis in the future.
