Get active and get connected in Cork this month for Community Health Month 2022.

Get active this month

Health workers in Cork and Kerry have launched a calendar of health activities for the month of October to mark Community Health Month.

This is the 2nd year workers from Cork Kerry Community Healthcare have undertaken Get Active, Get Connected, a month-long calendar of healthy fun activities and taster sessions.

More than 1,000 participants took part in more than 30 activities in the 2021 Get Active Get Connected events.

The month offers options for online and in-person activities as well as many opportunities for people to meet local community health workers and make positive connections supporting personal health, wellness and lifestyle.

The event, which is a HSE Health Action Zone Initiative, covers Cork’s northside communities as well as Community Health Projects in Fermoy, Mallow and Youghal.

The Health Action Zone Initiative has been enhancing local community health and wellness for 20 years.

Speaking at the launch of the event, Social Inclusion Manager at Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, Rebecca Loughry, said: “The selection of events is really impressive, with exercise sessions for all abilities, gardening, singing for the brain, first aid, DIY, healthy eating and cookery, women’s health information, and training events that focus on creating suicide safer communities such as SafeTALK.”

The Community Health Work Team invites everyone within the community to participate in some of the initiatives that are on offer over the course of the month.
