Bee kind asks Youghal pupils

There was a buzz around Youghal recently as a Bee Kind initiative was launched by some of Bunscoil Mhuire’s pupils.

Bunscoil Mhuire’s Síolta Beaga class launched its Bee Kind initiative which will include a special Bee Kind Day on Wednesday 15 February.

A spokesperson for the school said: “This community kindness initiative is being organised by the pupils of Ms Conway's Síolta Beaga, a special class for children who have Autism in Bunscoil Mhuire. The unique idea came from the pupils who are participating in this year’s national Junior Entrepreneur Programme where they had to devise, develop and produce a product or concept for the programme.”

The aim of the initiative is to promote community kindness, raise funds for Cork Penny Dinners and for the pupils to become successful entrepreneurs. The team has developed and designed a special mascot, Benny Bee, who will feature throughout the project. the pupils want Benny Bee to spread kindness throughout Youghal on 15 February.

As part of this initiative, the pupils have developed 2 bespoke Bee Kind products, a Bee Kind badge and a pack of cards.

“The specially designed and printed Bee Kind badge, featuring Benny Bee, will be available to buy at a cost of €2. The Bee Kind Card Pack, a pack of 5 cards and envelopes, features unique artworks by the pupils that have been inspired by their favourite places in Youghal will also be available to buy at a cost of €6 per pack or 2 packs for €10,” said the spokesperson.

The pupils have agreed that a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of both products will be donated to Cork Penny Dinners to support the work they do.

Badges and cards will be on sale in Brookes SuperValu Youghal on Friday 3 February, in Lidl on Saturday 4 February, at the Bunscoil Mhuire Coffee Morning on Friday 10 February and in Tesco on Saturday 11 February.

Packs of cards will also be available to buy in Read & Write and Youghal Credit Union.

Ms Conway, teacher at Síolta Beaga, said: “We are hoping that the people of Youghal will embrace our Bee Kind initiative, buy our Bee Kind products and Bee Kind to everyone on Wednesday 15 February. It has been wonderful to see the pupils work so hard on this great initiative.”
