Enter-prizes galore on show

South Cork will be very well represented at this year’s Student Enterprise Programme National Finals.

Coláiste Muire - Realt na Mara in Crosshaven can be especially proud with 4 of the 5 successful student-run businesses hailing from the school.

All 5 businesses are sure to do South Cork proud on 5 May when the Student Enterprise Programme National Finals return to Croke Park for the first time since 2019.

An estimated 150 students from 15 schools in the local area took part in the South Cork Final on 14 March, which was held at Cork County Hall.

In the Junior Category, Helena Pietruczuk of Coláiste Muire - Realt na Mara will be bringing her business, The Yarn Yeti, to Dublin in May for the finals.

In the Intermediate Category, Penny Keohane, Ellen Mc Donagh and Liam Kelleher, also from Coláiste Muire - Realt na Mara, are headed to the capital with their business Reduce Reuse Remember.

In the Senior Category of the competition, South Cork will be represented by Ben Hamilton, Billy Murphy, Callum Gormley Barrett, and Adam O'Leary from Coláiste Muire in Cobh with their Coláiste Muire Student IDs enterprise.

In the My Entrepreneurial Journey category, the South Cork winners were Oopsie Daisy by Emily O’Regan in the Junior Category, and Precious Pieces by Charlotte Fleming, in the Intermediate Category, both from Coláiste Muire - Realt na Mara in Carrigaline.

Congratulating the students that participated, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Danny Collins said: “What students are learning from the programme is that with the right supports and encouragement, they can take an idea from the classroom and develop it into a real-life business.

“The skills they learn along the way, such as business planning, market research, selling, and teamwork, will help them become more entrepreneurial throughout their future careers.”

The enterprise education initiative, funded by the Government of Ireland through Enterprise Ireland supports students to create, design and market their own business, all with the hope of reaching the National Finals.
