10 years of mentoring at MTU

MTU is celebrating 10 years of matching students with professionals from a wide range of sectors through the MTU Joint Mentorship Programme this academic year (2022-2023).

MTU alumni and the organisations in which they work have volunteered over 2,000 hours of their time to support 350 students through the programme to date.

The MTU Joint Mentorship Programme aims to ensure students have a smooth transition into the world of work, enhance connections between MTU students and alumni in relevant industries, as well as encouraging and supporting engagement between the university and its alumni community.

At the closing ceremony of the 2022-2023 programme where the 10 year anniversary was also celebrated, the President of MTU, Prof. Maggie Cusack said: “Connectedness and collaboration are highlighted as two key features of the technological university sector in Ireland. The MTU Joint Mentorship Programme embodies these features in a particularly innovative manner, harnessing both internal and external partnerships to ensure the future connectedness of MTU graduates.”

To mark the 10 year anniversary, MTU recorded and shared powerful stories where mentors and mentees share unique insights about their mentorship journey.

To further celebrate the milestone, MTU recognised alumni Roy Sexton and Laura Curtin with Mentor Volunteer Awards and Grainne Wrixon on behalf of PepsiCo with an Industry Partnership Award. These awards were presented in recognition of their involvement and commitment to the programme over the years.

MTU Crawford College of Art and Design alumna Suzanne O'Sullivan was commissioned to design glass art pieces for award recipients.

“Mentors involved in MTU Joint Mentorship Programme value the programme as they greatly appreciate the quality of education they received at MTU and this provides them with an opportunity to give back to the next generation of students, community leaders and industry leaders,” said Michael Loftus, Vice President for External Affairs at MTU.
