Marathon running in Cork this summer

Firing pistols at the ready as arrangements for this summer’s Cork City Marathon are well advanced.

The annual marathon is planned to take place on 2 June and is back to being organised by Cork City Council after Davis Event Agency, who had been running the event since 2019, terminated the contract with City Hall last year.

The topic was on Monday’s Cork City Council meeting agenda with An Rabharta Glas Councillor for Cork City South East Lorna Bogue asking for a briefing from the council executive on the “present contractual situation with the Davis Event Agency and the arrangements for the 2024 Cork marathon following the termination of said contract”.

City Hall officials said that on 18 December 2023 Davis Events Limited “exercised its right to terminate the contract with Cork City Council without liability on either side as was their right to do under the contract between themselves and Cork City Council”.

They added: “Having thanked Davis Events Limited for their efforts in the past couple of years with the marathon and wishing them well for the future, Cork City Council wishes to confirm it is organising and will deliver the annual marathon event.

“Arrangements are well advanced and participants and the public can look forward to a seamless transition and a safe and enjoyable Cork City Marathon for 2024,” officials said.
