Greenes closes ahead of new direction

One of Cork’s finest restaurants closed without warning this week.

Greenes Restaurant operated as normal on Sunday night, 25 February but management at the popular establishment revealed on Monday that Greenes Restaurant had closed and they have decided to do something other than fine dining.

The award-winning restaurant follows a recent Michelin Star winner in changing focus from fine dining to another type of cuisine following on Takeshi Miyazaki’s decision to close his one Michelin starred Ichigo Ichie at Fenn’s Quay late last year.

His new venture Ichigo Ichie Bistro & Natural Wine in the same location was awarded a Bib Gourmand after opening in January. It has a focus on affordable food.

On social media, Greenes Restaurant Management posted a message that revealed they “feel the restaurant, in its current form, has run its course and we have made the decision to shift from a fine dining offering. Until we reopen we will be busy behind the scenes creating a new concept that we are excited about.

“We have shared many happy moments with our guests over the years and have memories that will be cherished. While we do not yet have a date for a reopening, our new venture will bring a renewed sense of creativity to the space.”

They added that gift vouchers for Greenes Restaurant will be honoured in Hotel Isaacs and Cask and in their reopened space.

Their team and management also thanked all our loyal clientele over the years and the suppliers they have worked with.
