Cork kids on wild Arctic adventure
By Finnian Cox
Three Cork cousins are on the adventure of a lifetime as a part of some special episodes of RTÉ’s adventure series ‘Bush Kids’.
The show sees Caroline Murphy, Cuan O’ Brien and Donagh Casey embarking on a trip to the freezing Arctic Circle, under the guidance of the show’s presenter and bushcraft expert Tom Bán.
Joined by their uncle and dad Eoin, the family will face several challenges, as well as learning the essential skills to survive in the harsh environment.
The episodes see the cousins learning skills such as shelter building, cooking a fire on top of a frozen lake, as well as catching their dinner through ice-fishing. As well as encountering survival challenges, the trio were also given the chance to meet with the region’s Sami people, learning about their rich culture and traditions, and mastering their survival techniques. With the help of Tom Bán, the family learn to work as a team, be resilient, as well as seeing the connection between humanity and nature up close.
Outside of the survival challenges, Bán also teaches the family how to navigate in a frozen desert, with their journey climaxing at the peak of a snow-covered mountain.
Presenter Bán is a renowned bushcrafter, who has years of experience guiding people through the wilderness and teaching them crucial survivalist skills. His passion for the outdoors and nature has led to him being the star of ‘Bush Kids’ for three seasons, which have seen him bring numerous families into Ireland’s wilderness.
Comprised of six episodes, ‘Bush Kids: Artic Adventure Special’ began on Tuesday and airs daily at 10.15am on RTÉ 2.
The show was produced by Gmarsh TV Productions, an award-winning Irish company, who specialise in creating shows that illustrate the value of contemporary life.
