Young and old will be enchanted

It’s getting very crafty in Killeagh in the run up to Halloween.

Greywood Arts has plans to celebrate Samhain in true Celtic spirit with midterm lantern making workshops and a festive Parade of Light on 1 November.

Marking the end of the harvest and beginning of winter, the Celts believed that the transitions between seasons was when the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead thinned, allowing spirits to cross over easily into our world. Bonfires and light-filled lanterns were used to ward off the spirits.

Embracing the spirit of Samhain, Greywood Arts in Killeagh is getting crafty, with a series of lantern making workshops for all ages on Monday 27 October at 11am and 2pm and on Tuesday 28 October for adults at 6.30pm.

Using natural willow and paper, lanterns of all shapes and sizes will be created, and once dried, they will then be used in the Parade of Light, which includes a magical procession of lanterns led by mystical women who Walk the Veil into Glenbower Woods on Saturday 1 November at 5.30pm. This special Samhain parade will be followed by sweet treats, hot chocolate, mulled wine for a truly memorable All Hallows Eve at Greywood Arts on Main Street, Killeagh.

Jessica Bonenfant, Creative Director at Greywood Arts, said: “We invite everyone to join in this dazzling display of light as we process together into Glenbower Wood after dark, honouring our Celtic traditions and marking the beginning of the winter season. Both young and old will be enchanted by this magical celebration.”
