Community nursing unit to be handed over to HSE
A community nursing unit is set to transfer over to the HSE next year.
The 50-bed Midleton Community Nursing Unit will be handed over to the HSE in Q1 2026.
The unit will consist of two 25-bed so called residential households and will replace and enhance the current services provided at Midleton Community Hospital.
Speaking on Monday Sinn Féin TD Pat Buckley said: “This is a great news for the community of Midleton, after so many delays in the construction and completion of this project, it is a great relief to hear that the end is in sight. As part of that process, the new unit will need to be stocked, staffed, successfully registered by HIQA and final inspections conducted. Once the building is officially registered by HIQA, transfer of services to the new unit will take place as soon as possible thereafter.”
He added: “The new unit will play an important role in meeting growing demand for residential and nursing care, while also supporting families who require high quality care for their loved ones closer to home.
“Expanding care provision locally is essential to ensuring people can access the support they need, when they need it, and without being forced to travel further afield,” he added.
The procurement of the new Midleton CNU forms part of a national procurement process undertaken by the HSE centrally for the delivery of a number of community nursing units throughout the country. These units are being delivered under a public private partnership.
