Sarah Kate O’Meara in action for Glen Rovers.

Remembering Sarah Kate

10 teams will come together to try and win the Sarah Kate O’Meara Memorial Camogie seven a side tournament this Saturday 23 May.

Eighteen year old Sarah Kate was a member of the club’s minor team who went on to win the minor A county league title that year - a win they dedicated to her. The young Glen Rovers player passed away unexpectedly two years ago.

She began playing camogie in the Glen Rovers underage academy following in the footsteps of her twin sisters Emily and Isobel and progressed through the club ranks.

Last year was the inaugural year of the Sarah Kate O’Meara tournament and it was played at under 20 level with Ballinhassig becoming the first winners of the trophy.

The O’Meara family have invited Douglas, Ballinhassig, Courcey Rovers, Na Piarsaigh, St Catherine’s, Inniscarra, Blackrock and Sarsfields to participate with Glen Rovers having two teams bringing the total to ten teams.

Teams will register at 10am, with the first matches starting at 11am sharp. Each team is guaranteed four group stage matches and those will be followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The group stage games run from 11am to 2.20pm and they will be eight minutes a half with a 2 minute half-time break.

The quarter finals will be at 3pm and 3.20pm followed by the semi-finals at 4.10pm.

The final will be at 5pm, with 10 minutes a half, with a 2 minute half time break.

The top four teams in each group go through to quarter finals, it will be two points for a win, one point for a draw. If there is a tie on points it will be decided on score difference, head to head, total points or a draw to determine who progresses.

Each team can have up to fourteen players named on their panel, there will be unlimited substitutions during a match with substitutions made by passing a baton.

On the day there will be a raffle in aid of the Dillon Quirke Foundation with plenty of great prizes on offer and the day will conclude with the raffle and presentation in the clubhouse.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Parking on the day will be in the car park in the pitch across the road from the main complex.

So anybody attending is asked to be mindful of this. It promises to be a great occasion and fun filled day of camogie.
