Lots of playground fun in Togher!
New playground equipment designed for children of all ages and abilities and produced using recycled plastic is now part of the furniture in Togher.
Joined by pupils from Togher Boys’ National School and Togher Girls’ National School, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin unveiled the new playground equipment on Monday as part of Novo Nordisk Ireland's ongoing Play at Primary School Initiative.
Play at Primary School is a Novo Nordisk Ireland partnership with DEIS schools installing new playground equipment to encourage physical activity and active play among primary school children. The equipment is made by a Galway company using recycled plastic in line with Novo Nordisk’s Circular for Zero environmental sustainability goals.
A Taoiseach Micheál Martin said: “I am delighted to join the children and teachers from Togher Boys’ and Togher Girls’ National Schools today to launch this initiative.
“Play has a fundamentally important role in young people’s physical and mental wellbeing. It is lovely to witness the excitement over the new playground equipment, provided by Novo Nordisk Ireland’s initiative. It aligns closely with the Government’s commitment to promote physical education and sports facilities in our schools. I look forward to seeing children enjoying the playgrounds here for years to come.”
Speaking at the launch, Nina Hovland, General Manager and Vice President of Novo Nordisk in Ireland said: “We are delighted to extend our Play at Primary School initiative to more schools in Cork. Encouraging children to play actively, outside, and with their friends in a way that makes it fun and enjoyable, will help build good habits for life and healthier lives and that is what we want to work towards in our own Healthier Ireland strategy. We are delighted to be able to play a part, together with teachers and school communities towards this goal.”
Play at Primary School was launched by Novo Nordisk Ireland in November 2024, providing playground equipment to 9 DEIS schools across the country, with plans to expand to more schools during 2025. Novo Nordisk is a healthcare company founded in 1923 and headquartered in Denmark.
