The first Irish Wendy’s opened in Mahon Point this week.

Welcome to Cork, Wendy girl!

Cork said hello to Ireland’s first Wendy’s this week with the new site creating more than 50 jobs.

Last year, Corrib Oil was announced as Wendy’s franchise partner in Ireland, and on Tuesday the first Irish location opened to the public in Mahon Point Shopping Centre.

Over the coming years, Corrib plans to open ten Wendy’s locations across the country as both standalone Wendy’s restaurants and Wendy’s locations at select Corrib Oil service stations, creating more than 300 jobs nationwide. Further Wendy’s locations in Ireland will be announced in due course.

Justin Young, Centre Director of Mahon Point Shopping Centre said: “To be part of bringing the first Wendy’s to Ireland is great news for Mahon Point. We are expecting a really busy time ahead with the new restaurant opening, and we are looking forward to supporting the teams at Corrib and Wendy’s as they bring the much-anticipated, high-quality food Wendy’s is famous for to the people of Cork.”

Founded in 1987, Corrib Oil currently operates 40 convenience stores with forecourts and 20 fuel depots across 17 counties. The partnership with Wendy’s is a key part of Corrib Oil’s broader expansion strategy in Ireland, which aims to more than double its national footprint to 100 locations by 2030 and continue to grow its home heating distribution and fuel card business.

Michael Dalton, Managing Director of Corrib Brands said: “We’re thrilled to open the first Wendy’s in Ireland here in Mahon Point. We’re looking forward to serving customers from near and far here in Cork, with the fresh and locally sourced menu items, including 100% fresh Irish beef and hand breaded chicken burgers, and outstanding hospitality that Wendy’s are known for around the world.”

Michael Clarke, Managing Director – Europe, The Wendy’s Company added: “We’re proud to see the Wendy’s brand come to life in Cork through our partnership with Corrib Oil. As the first city in Ireland to welcome Wendy’s, Cork represents an important step in our continued growth across Europe.

“Corrib Oil is an ideal partner to deliver our ‘globally great, locally even better’ experience, and we look forward to supporting their team as they introduce Wendy’s signature hospitality and fresh, craveable food to Irish customers.”

As part of its commitment to the Irish market, Wendy’s will use 100% fresh Irish beef and hand-breaded chicken burgers across its menu. The brand is best known for its square hamburgers, Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and the iconic cool and creamy Frosty dessert. There will also be breakfast options and a variety of wraps and kids’ meals.
